Remove Line Breaks

Paste text that is broken into short lines, for example from a PDF, an email or a subtitle file, and join it back into clean paragraphs.

How to remove line breaks

  1. Paste your text into the box.
  2. Choose a mode: Keep paragraph breaks joins lines inside each paragraph but keeps blank lines between paragraphs; Remove all line breaks produces one single paragraph; Lines to comma-separated list turns a column of items into a, b, c.
  3. Click the button and copy the result.

Why text gets extra line breaks

PDFs store text line by line, so copying from them adds a hard break at the end of every visual line. Plain-text emails are often wrapped at around 72 characters, and subtitles split sentences across short cues. This tool removes those breaks and collapses the extra spaces they leave behind.

Doing it in Word or Excel

In Microsoft Word, open Find and Replace, search for ^p (paragraph mark) and replace it with a space. In Excel, use =SUBSTITUTE(A1,CHAR(10)," ") to replace line breaks inside a cell. For quick one-off jobs the tool above is faster and does not change your original document.

Frequently asked questions

Will it remove spaces between words?

No. Line breaks are replaced with a single space, and runs of spaces are collapsed to one.

Can I keep paragraphs?

Yes. Choose Keep paragraph breaks; a blank line marks a new paragraph.

Is there a length limit?

There is no fixed limit; very large texts depend on your browser's memory.
